The Community Resilience and Recovery Program
Ballarat Community Health is pleased to be delivering recovery and case management services to people impacted by the February 2024 Bushfires in the Grampians region, specifically the communities of Beaufort and Raglan in the Pyrenees Shire. We will be working closely with the Pyrenes Shire and local services to provide intensive support for people who have been directly impacted by the fires.
This program follows the work of umbrella network, the Alliance of Rural and Regional Community Health (ARRCH), who have been calling for a permanent trauma-informed workforce in Community Health across rural and regional Victoria to support disaster recovery response at the local level.
Case management support includes identifying service needs, advice and providing tailored support to help people in their recovery journey.

“There is a tendency to have an intensive focus at the point of the crisis, but the reality is there is enduring trauma and ongoing support is required well beyond the traumatic event. These initiatives make sense for communities. We know from previous experience that support is required for many years.”
