Specialist Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Family Violence Advisor
The Royal Commission into Family Violence in 2016 made recommendations to improve the way that authorities, systems, and services prevent, identify, and respond to family violence in Victoria. The Royal Commission highlighted the need to enhance the way health and human services work together to ensure that victim survivors are supported and people who use violence are visible and held accountable. One of the findings of the Royal Commission was that alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services play a direct role in identifying and responding to family violence.
The Specialist Family Violence Advisor roles were developed and funded across 17 Local Government Areas by the Victorian State Government. The roles were developed in response to recommendations 98 and 99 of the Royal Commission into Family Violence to embed family violence expertise within the AOD sector, to support continuous improvement, lead system and practice change and build sector capacity and capability to identify, assess and respond to family violence.
This is made possible by;
- Building family violence capability and capacity
- Supporting collaboration
- Providing secondary consultation across the AOD and family violence sectors
- Building strong relationships between the sectors and promoting an integrated service response and collaborative practice
- Supporting the alignment and embedding of the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework
This role is not a client facing role but is available for AOD and family violence professionals to utilise for secondary consults and for capacity building.
