General practice changes in Smythesdale

Ballarat Community Health has recently undertaken a review of all medical services provided across all of our sites. The outcomes of this review and further internal assessments have, after much consideration, led us to make the difficult decision to cease GP services at our BCH Smythesdale site from the 1st of July 2022. Allied health services will continue to be delivered in Smythesdale. We believe consolidating services at our other sites will enable clients to access a greater range of health services in the one location.

We are aware rural communities have unique needs and are approaching alternative services and practitioners who might be interested in continuing services in the area.

Through this transition period, Ballarat Community Health will continue to support the Smythesdale community to access services that they need to support their health and wellbeing. We will communicate directly with all current clients to determine the best way forward for them and their families.

Continuity of health care is of fundamental importance to us. Our team will ensure all clients who would normally attend the Smythesdale clinic are offered GP services at our other sites in Lucas, Sebastopol, or Wendouree (Howitt Street). Some clients may also choose to access general practice at the closet location to where they live, i.e. Delacombe Town Centre or similar. We will support the transition of your medical history once a new service has been established. For local bus times, CLICK HERE.
