Midsumma Exhibition Launch – Saturday 29th Jan 2022

Photo exhibit celebrates incredible trans, gender-diverse and non-binary Victorians

This Saturday 29 January 2022, an extraordinary photography exhibit with works by regional photographer James Mepham will launch online and is open to guests from across Victoria.

The event, in partnership with Transgender Victoria, is part of the Midsumma Festival which runs throughout summer each year.

The exhibition will feature photographs of trans, gender diverse and non-binary Victorians and celebrates the roads many trans and gender diverse people travel in order to find home – in themselves and in their communities. Beyond the city, trans, gender-diverse and non-binary people live and thrive in country towns, near rivers, beaches, mountains and plains and ask to be welcomed wherever they grow.

The theme also links to the 2022 Melbourne Pride theme – Road to Pride.

Artist James Mepham is the exhibition photographer. James, himself as a regional transgender Victorian, has made significant contributions to local and international communities as a humanitarian documentary photographer.

The project has been supported by a Midsumma Regional Activation Grant. The project has been developed by Ballarat Community Health, as the regional Community Health consortia partner in the Department of Health funded Trans and Gender Diverse People in Community Health (TGDiCH) project and Transgender Victoria, with the support of numerous community organisations and individuals.

Ballarat Community Health CEO Sean Duffy said that the event was a great opportunity to showcase the services that exist locally in the region.

“We work closely with members of the LGBTIQ+ community, supporting them to navigate the health system and connect to support services and groups,” Mr Duffy said.
“We strive to provide safe and wholistic care to ensure all people living in the Central Highlands region are able to achieve optimal health and wellbeing”.

The launch will take place this Saturday and is FREE and online only. To register your interest please visit the link below:
