Looking after your mates

In case a mate needs support card

The smallest actions can make the biggest difference. A simple check in on someone could mean more than you think. 15 – 21 June 2026 is Men’s Health Week, an opportunity to support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our community. Men’s Health Week focuses on not just physical health, but also mental health and emotional wellbeing.

It can be difficult to know how to help a mate who needs support. Pictured are our new reference cards, the perfect size for your wallet. They can be a helpful resource when someone you know is struggling. You can find them across our BCH sites.

Ballarat Community Health also offers community education sessions to support mental health and wellbeing. ‘Looking After Your Mates (and Yourself)’ is a relaxed, practical session designed to support the wellbeing of older men and their communities. Learn how to spot the signs that someone may be doing it tough, have supportive conversations, and connect with local services and supports.

We welcome

  • Older men and those approaching retirement.
  • Partners, family members, and friends of older men.
  • Carers and community volunteers.
  • Members of local clubs, sporting groups, Men’s Sheds, and community organisations.
  • Anyone wanting to strengthen their skills in supporting the wellbeing of others.
